ARE YOU FEELING WEIGHED DOWN BY GRIEF AND SORROW?

I provide a safe, secure place where you can ‘tell it like it is’ as often as you need to, and from every possible angle.

I’ll help you to release your distress so that you can walk with lighter steps, I’ll help you to carry your grief without it breaking your back.

Grief therapy is like a rich conversation, to-ing and fro-ing. To begin with I’ll ask you some questions about the person you’ve lost and how you experience grief. You can say as much or as little as you feel able to do at any time.

My task is to help you gain insight into and understanding of what grief is, how it affects you, and how you can lean into it rather than push it away.

Sometimes we live in shock and disbelief for a time after the first impact of the loss. I’ll help you come to terms with the reality of your loss.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR GRIEF BETTER

I’ll help you gain insight into what grief is, and how it affects you uniquely. Gaining insight will help you to understand your grief better, leaning into it rather than ignoring it.

I’ll encourage you to talk about the person you love and see no more, except in photographs, videos, memories and dreams.

If there are difficult areas of your relationship which surface as you tell your story, then, gently, I’ll help you address these and find a place of rest for them.

DEATH DOESN’T MEAN THAT WE MUST STOP LOVING OUR BELOVEDS

Death doesn’t mean that we must stop loving our beloveds, or cease to relate to them: that we must detach ourselves from them as if they’ve never lived

I’ll give you practical resources and tools to help and support you, inviting you to journal, paint, dance, sculpt, sing – whatever you feel will help you – to release the grief within you. You can use this toolkit  between sessions and when you’re therapy-free.

These resources and tools will help you as you travel on with your grief and support your self-care on the difficult days.

HELPING YOU COME TO TERMS WITH THE REALITY OF YOUR LOSS

The emotions and thoughts which grief brings can often feel utterly alien to us. Grief plunges us into the depths of this immense emotional ocean. Naturally, we fear that we’ll drown.

I’ll help you to understand the emotional oceans of your grief, to work with them and to feel less overwhelmed.

What is Grief Therapy?

Grief therapy, also known as grief counselling or bereavement therapy, is a specialised form of counselling aimed at helping individuals navigate the complex and often overwhelming emotions associated with loss and grief. This therapeutic approach provides a supportive and compassionate space for individuals to express and process their feelings, thoughts, and experiences after the death of a loved one or other significant losses.

Grief therapy can be beneficial for those struggling with various aspects of grief, including sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, and feelings of isolation. It offers a safe and non-judgmental environment for individuals to explore their grief, learn coping strategies, and find ways to adjust to life without their loved one.

What are the benefits of Grief Therapy?

Among the many benefits of grief therapy is a key benefit of reaching a point when you feel able to release the intensity of your emotional and psychological distress relating to the loss of your loved one and to begin creating a continued relationship (known as continuing bonds) with them. While grief remains with us for the rest of our life it doesn’t mean that it feels intense and horrendous forever. The feel of grief changes as our lives change.

Do I have to know in advance what I want to talk about?

No, not at all. Again, it’s a personal thing. Not preparing may allow deeper things to surface. If you’ll feel more comfortable doing some preparation for our session that’ll be great. I work with whatever you bring to each session.

How long should I wait before starting Grief Therapy?

The timing of grief therapy is something we cover in the exploratory session. When you start grief therapy is a personal choice, based on what you feel you need. It can be helpful to wait a few months, letting the shock of the death subside a little. Equally, it can be very helpful to start grief therapy a few weeks after the Funeral when you’re likely to feel very raw.

I am anticipating a death, can you help?

Many people benefit from being able to recognise and understand how anticipatory grief affects them. This can help us to feel empowered instead of helpless and confused and may help us support our loved one who’s dying.

How many sessions does it take?

This is a very personal and important part of grief therapy. I don’t predict how many sessions will be necessary as this depends on how you engage in your therapy. Generally, it becomes clear when the journey together is coming to its end.
